So when we were getting ready to welcome our twins into the world; we always thought that we would need two of EVERYTHING. FALSE! You do not need two of everything, in fact; one twin might not like what the other one did. So don’t waste money on things that you may not need. There were also things that we learned from having our singletons. When you go to the store, the word “baby” adds to the dollar amount for everything you buy that has the word “baby” in it. When I was working at babies r us back in 2016-2017(before they went bankrupt), I saw so so so many things that we use in every day life, cost 5x more when it was turned into a “baby” product. i understand when you are putting things in a registry, you add all the baby merchandise. That’s understandable but for an expectant mother, save all the money you can.
Example 1: wash cloths pack of 18 are $3-$5. Baby wash cloths are a pack of 2-4 and are $10-$12. You could literally take a bath towel, and cut it into the desired size. Bath towels are only $3-$8 each. You can roughly get 15-25 squares. it’s the same with baby towels. To be honest they don’t make those things big enough as the child grows. Just use a normal towel. Baby towels are $10-$15 for 2, normal towels are $3-$8.
Example 2: baby wipe warmers, don’t waste your money! Just keep them in a warm place in the house, or car. Same with the butt paste spatula… you have your hands. It’s just another thing you have to wash.
The only things you really need doubles for baby gear are: bounce seats, car seats, cribs(if they sleep separate), high chairs, and the normal things that come in multipacks.
When having twins, a NICU stay is almost 80% guarantee. I would definitely bring preemie, and newborn outfits. The hospital with likely have some but you can’t take them home after. The nurses will help you with anything you need. If you need help learning how to swaddle, ask. If you need help breastfeeding, ask. The hospital I was at was a godsend! Make sure you ask about staying overnight. It will help you(mentally and physically) and help the babies. You have to make sure you are taking care of yourself also. If they have the “family room” option, take advantage of it as much as you can. staying at the family room will also help with getting used to the routines of the babies and you get to learn their little personalities and some techniques the nurses and doctors use for the babies.
